The high school senior sings, dances, acts, and loves engineering. However, she truly lights up when she talks about her volunteer trip to the Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe interviewed a group of women and asked which neighborhood project they wanted most,\u201d she says. \u201cThey chose a playground.\u201d Brittney and her fellow Global Glimpse students refurbished the local playground and built a gazebo in the center of the park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Brittney Burns - Winner of Cirkled In&#039;s $2,500 &quot;Gift To The World&quot; Scholarship\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8FcJQDRo_AQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brittney credits her parents for shaping her drive, ambition, and passions. Her dad, a veteran, sparked her interest in biomedical engineering. At an engineering summer camp at the University of Chicago, she saw how STEM could change the lives of veterans and others who had lost limbs to disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her mom also influenced her deeply. When her mom returned to school at 46 to earn a master\u2019s degree, she showed Brittney that learning has no age limit. That example motivated Brittney to pursue graduate-level education in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s no surprise that Brittney chose \u201ccompassion\u201d as the one gift she would give to the world. She heads off to college this fall, and we\u2019re thrilled to support her dream of becoming a biomedical engineer.
